What are Cosmetic Injectables?

Cosmetic injection procedures are non-surgical procedures involving injecting substances into the skin to enhance as persons natural facials features, improve facial symmetry and the skin’s appearance. Using hyaluronic acid (HA), also known as dermal filler, soft tissue augmentation treatments aim to improve and restore volume loss or structure, such as to the lips or jaw. Botulinum toxin, also known as anti-ageing products work by relaxing muscle contraction that can reduce the appearance fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures have become increasingly popular and can be an effective way to address aesthetic concerns with minimal downtime, and without the need of invasive surgery. Another feature of non-surgical cosmetic procedures is their ability to be customised to meet individual needs. This allows for tailored treatment planning to address specific concerns and to achieve personalised, more natural-looking results.

Understanding Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

For those seeking to enhance facial aesthetics without undergoing surgery, cosmetic injectables have emerged as a popular alternative.

Here is a brief overview of the procedure:

  • The Role of Cosmetic Injections: Non-surgical cosmetic treatments are a minimally invasive procedure that injects specific substances into the skin to address various aesthetic concerns. They can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enhance facial features and improve symmetry, volume loss and structure.
  • Consultation & Assessment: It begins with a thorough consultation and facial assessment where the patient’s motives are explored, and the desired outcomes and realistic results are discussed. The cosmetic practitioner will communicate details of the treatment plan, including the type of product, dosing, potential complications and risks, aftercare, expected outcomes, what to expect when having the treatment, and the associated financial expense. This ensures the patient comprehensively understands the procedure, and can make an informed decision to either proceed with treatment.
  • Procedure: The procedure is often quick and involves using a fine needle or cannula to precisely inject the chosen product into specific facial areas.
  • Factors Influencing Effectiveness: Many lifestyle factors come into place with the effectiveness of treatment. This varies depending on the patients metabolism, lifestyle, the type of product being used and the skill of the cosmetic practitioner. Different non-surgical cosmetic products cater to specific purposes and facial areas, with the practitioner’s expertise playing a pivotal role in determining the outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

To become a cosmetic practitioner, also known as a cosmetic injector in Australia, you must be a registered healthcare professional (such as a Doctor or Registered Nurse). It is then necessary to complete and demonstrate competence in an industry endorsed training program in non-surgical cosmetic injectable practices, like the courses offered at Esteem Academy. On completion of your training, it is important to gain practical skills and experience within a clinic environment and to stay update to date with ongoing education in the industry to continue your skills and development.

The duration of an injectable course varies depending on the level and complexity. At Esteem Academy, our courses typically range from 1-3 days of intensive hands-on training, preceded by online theoretical learning.

Advanced courses may extend longer to cover more complex techniques and treatments, such as our Foundations of Cosmetic Injecting Course. This course is facilitated over 10 days of intensive hands-on practical injecting, covering basic & advanced non-surgical cosmetic injectable treatments.

While Nurses and Doctors can perform non-surgical cosmetic injectable procedures, in Australia Dentists and Nurse Practitioners can also administer after the appropriate training. The key requirement is being a registered healthcare professional with the appropriate qualifications and training in non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
